In some Bookshelves I left openings where I will build a reading desk using Dark Oak Slabs and a block of Stairs. Most of the Bookshelves also have Trapdoors on their sides and Stairs or Slabs on top to make them feel more like actual framed Bookshelves. The Bookshelves we will place so that they basically wrap around the room, along the walls, giving us a cozy feeling. The bottom floor of the tower will be only for Enchanting, while the other floors can only be accessed through the loft, which we will build later. In the image below you can see the exact measurements for each wall of the layout, excluding the Stairs at the front. It will have two floors, along with a tower on the back of it, simply for aesthetic purposes.

What is turmeric good for? How much to take daily and benefits

A diet rich in antioxidant foods, such as fruits, vegetables and spices like turmeric, can help our brain cells to cope with this stress. Research published in the Frontiers journal concluded that turmeric can be a beneficial ally in delaying neurological disorders. Turmeric has long been loved for its flavour-enhancing properties, stirred into everything from fragrant curries to appetising breakfasts (add it to your scrambled eggs and thank us later). During the flowering season, tiny, bright blossoms appear on the plant's lengthy stems, adorned with long, green, lance-shaped leaves.

The best growing conditions for Curcuma are humid environments with ample rainfall—moderate to warm temperatures. Curcuma goes dormant in colder weather and will not survive past the first frost. Typically, this plant needs watering once weekly in the spring or summer. Millstine notes that though she agrees that "turmeric is generally safe," there are other potential side effects to be mindful of. "The biggest risk I encounter with turmeric in my practice is interactions with other medications," she explains.

Expert tips on how to protect your property from squatters

Title theft is rare, but the implications should keep every property owner vigilant. If you do fall victim to title fraud get ready for a legal fight. Title theft usually involves a form of identity theft and forgery. Once a thief gets hold of your information, they forge a deed with the help of a corrupt notary. "After they fraudulently obtain title to your home, they can sell the property, they can borrow against it, but it is important to remember these are hypotheticals," said Arash Sadat, a real estate attorney.

Memories of those meals linger in my mind every time I reach for this golden root today. Cottage cheese, green peas, dry fenugreek and creamy tomato sauce. Curcuma bloom in summer through fall and produce vibrant, trumpet-shaped flowers in various hues, including pink, purple, and white. As a member of the ginger family, the leaves have a bitter fragrance.

The Southern Living Garden Book describes them as "a group of highly ornamental gingers, " including turmeric and Siam tulip plants. I love including freshly grated turmeric in all sorts of blended cold drinks, from milkshakes to green juices. Blitzing it with mango and banana, for example, results in a beautifully yellow, naturally sweet smoothie. I also like to add creamy avocado or cooling yogurt to the mix, which makes the drink ultra luscious and perfectly balances out turmeric’s mildly bitter flavor. Chopped fresh spinach cooked with onion, ginger, garlic and spices with cream and butter. Turmeric contains a powerful antioxidant known as curcumin, which studies have indicated offers myriad benefits in many different areas.

Plant Curcuma in the same soil as previously harvested mint or lemongrass, which contains pathogens that can suppress bacterial wilt from forming. Curcuma is relatively easy to grow indoors and outdoors as part of the ginger family. Depending on growing conditions, grow Curcuma as an annual or perennial summer plant. This plant does not spread quickly, so it is ideal for container gardens. And the curcumin within turmeric may also have cancer-fighting properties, though again, such research is ongoing. But she and other experts say that turmeric needs to be researched further and that there are some known negative side effects from taking too much of the supplement. "Turmeric's main active component, curcumin, makes it a potential treatment for numerous health conditions," says Denise Millstine, MD, women's health and integrative medicine specialist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Whenever I find myself with a lot of turmeric, I slice the root thinly, then season the pieces with lemon juice, vinegar, salt, rapeseed oil, and crushed black mustard seeds. The pickles are crunchy and leave a pleasantly numbing sensation on the tongue, and they’re the perfect balance for boldly flavoured Indian dishes. A member of the ginger family, turmeric, also known as Curcuma longa, is a flowering plant whose rhizomes (roots) appear similar to the rhizomes of ginger − but with a yellowish-orange color instead of brown. Grated, sliced or peeled in its raw form or dried and ground into a powder, turmeric is a culinary spice that's used extensively in Indian cooking especially, giving foods both flavor and color. It's commonly added to soups, tandoori chicken, rice and curry, and has become a popular enhancement in roasted vegetables and egg scrambles. Though the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that the health effects of turmeric supplementation on certain medical conditions, "remain uncertain," turmeric does have properties known to be beneficial. For instance, as with other colorful plant-based foods, turmeric is rich in phytonutrients (powerful antioxidants) that are known for protecting one's body from free radicals such as sunlight or air pollution and for shielding cells from damage.

Beyond its status as a culinary powerhouse, turmeric is also a prominent cultural symbol. It plays a role in celebrations such as weddings, during which turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom's skin before the ceremony as a symbol of purity and divinity. People even decorate the entrances of their homes with rangoli—turmeric paste shaped into intricate patterns—to invite positive energy and ward off evil spirits. The ingredient is also a potent natural dye that can impart everything from fabrics to doughs with a bright yellow hue. Unleavened flour bread stuffed with mozzarella cheese and sautéed spinach. Creamy tomato sauce flavored with dry fenugreek and butter masala.

"Turmeric may also aid digestion, improve brain function, and support healthy skin," explains Lisa Young, PhD, an adjunct professor of nutrition at New York University and author of "Finally Full, Finally Slim." If the Curcuma plant is not flowering, this is a sign of inadequate light, malnutrition, or possible winter damage. Position Curcuma in an area that receives at least six hours of sunlight daily, but be sure not to scorch the plant. Maintain healthy and nutrient-rich soil so it is a loamy consistency. Depending on your region's climate, a dormant plant may have experienced too harsh cold-weather conditions, which can prevent growth. She adds that most research indicates that turmeric's supplement form should be kept between 500 and 2,000 milligrams daily, "but an effective dose may vary on the condition being treated."

When the aroma of turmeric hits my nostrils, it immediately transports me to my grandparents’ house in Punjab, where my family spent many summers. Growing up in Bengali, I never saw fresh turmeric, but the plant was abundant during our holidays in Punjab. As my maternal grandmother Nani prepared traditional dishes, from paratha to pulao, her cooking filled the air with a warm, earthy scent.

Whether you’re making a loaf of bread, a pile of fritters, or a platter of pancakes, don’t hesitate to grab your grater and sprinkle a few teaspoons of fresh turmeric directly into the batter. You’ll end up with a hint of earthiness in every bite, and a lovely golden color in the finished product. Roasted eggplant, ginger, garlic, onion, tomatoes and ground cardamom.

Though an increasing number of chefs in the U.S. are making turmeric powder an indispensable part of their pantry, its fresh counterpart also warrants a place in your cooking arsenal. Tender boneless chicken roasted in the tandoor and simmered with cream, tomato sauce, honey and spices. It’s no secret that as we age, the neurons in our brains stop firing as effectively, which can lead to memory loss and changes in mood, among other symptoms. Part of this is driven by the accumulation of oxidative stress in the brain.

These plants can be reliably grown in the Coastal and Tropical South, often found along the Florida coast. Curcuma is a genus of plants native to the tropical regions of Asia. You'll know Curcuma, which belongs to the ginger family Zingiberaceae, by their eye-catching, angular blooms on tall spiked stems.

Turnover stuffed with potatoes, green peas ,turmeric and spices. Considering adding turmeric supplements to your own daily regime? Turmeric may also improve heart health "as it reduces bad cholesterol while increasing good cholesterol," explains Young. At the end of 2019, it was reported that turmeric, a spice that was once only known to Southeast Asia, had racked up $328 million in annual U.S. sales as a dietary supplement. It's only increased in popularity in the years since as many supplement companies have heavily marketing its health benefits. Some of those benefits are exaggerated or unproven, but others are backed by science.

Tandoori Dishes

You don’t have to mess around with food coloring if you’ve got turmeric on hand. After peeling and chopping the root, blitz it with a splash of water in a blender to make a runny paste. Pass the mixture through a sieve, then set it aside at room temperature for a few hours so the color can intensify. Add a couple teaspoons of this liquid to, say, dough or batter, and the results will be stunningly sunny.

And she says that some forms of the plant may also cause heartburn. But it isn't all good news as many such advantages are still being studied and turmeric has some known negative side effects. "While turmeric is safe to consume, too much of it can cause diarrhea, nausea and headache," explains Young. Eating turmeric may also slow down blood clotting due to its anticoagulant properties, "which can be beneficial for some but dangerous to others," adds Young.

The mixture soothes the stomach and throat as much as the soul, especially during cold winter months. The founders of Turmeric house strive for constant perfection and innovation. Your home or property may be the biggest investment you have, and it's hard to image someone stealing it. But title theft can happen, and the implications can be devastating. It’s important to look for a bioavailable (absorbable) formulation that’s backed up by scientific evidence. FutureYou Cambridge’s Turmeric+ contains the most scientifically studied curcumin on the market, with over 42 human studies, and is proven to be 30 times more absorbable than ordinary turmeric. Leaf blotch and leaf spots can also happen when temperatures are high or leaves are overwatered. Deadheading flowers is optional as it might improve appearances. Curcuma grows and blossoms even if you choose not to deadhead flowers. Use pruning shears to cut the flowers close to the ground and remove brown leaves when the plant does dormant.

Curcuma thrives in daily sunlight, tolerating high moisture levels and at least six hours of full sun. If you live in a region with scorching temperatures, allow Curcuma to rest in the afternoon sun. Turmeric has also been used as a traditional Indian medicine for centuries and is widely available today as a supplement in the form of both powder and capsules.

Experimental Research Designs: Types, Examples & Advantages

experimental study design

It is less expensive and less time‐consuming than cohort studies (described in section “Cohort study”). An example of a case‐control study was performed in Pakistan evaluating the risk factors for neonatal tetanus. They retrospectively reviewed a defined cohort for cases with and without neonatal tetanus.9 They found a strong association of the application of ghee (clarified butter) as a risk factor for neonatal tetanus.

Code, Data and Media Associated with this Article

It is the most accurate type of experimental design and may be carried out with or without a pretest on at least 2 randomly assigned dependent subjects. A non‐randomized clinical trial involves an approach to selecting controls without randomization. With this type of study design a pattern is usually adopted, such as, selection of subjects and controls on certain days of the week. Depending on the approach adopted, the selection of subjects becomes predictable and therefore, there is bias with regards to selection of subjects and controls that would question the validity of the results obtained. Descriptive observational studies provide a description of the exposure and/or the outcome, and analytic observational studies provide a measurement of the association between the exposure and the outcome.

In simple randomization, the subjects are randomly allocated to experiment/intervention groups based on a constant probability. That is, if there are two groups A and B, the subject has a 0.5 probability of being allocated to either group. This can be performed in multiple ways, and one of which being as simple as a ‘flip of a coin’ to using random tables or numbers.17 The advantage of using this methodology is that it eliminates selection bias. However, the disadvantage with this methodology is that an imbalance in the number allocated to each group as well as the prognostic factors between groups. In a factorial design, participants are randomly assigned to one of several groups, each of which receives a different combination of two or more independent variables. The types of experimental research design are determined by the way the researcher assigns subjects to different conditions and groups.

This could take up to years before development of disease/outcome, and therefore is time consuming and expensive. On the other hand, retrospective cohort studies identify a population with and without the risk factor/exposure based on past records and then assess if they had developed the disease/outcome at the time of study. Thus, the study design for prospective and retrospective cohort studies are similar as we are comparing populations with and without exposure/risk factor to development of outcome/disease. However, the difference between the two is the assignment of the control group.

Formplus - For Seamless Data Collection

Study design is the preferred term in the AMA Manual of Style,2 so I will use it here. We have discussed various clinical research study designs in this comprehensive review. Though there are various designs available, one must consider various ethical aspects of the study. Hence, each study will require thorough review of the protocol by the institutional review board before approval and implementation. Information bias is when a systematic error is committed while obtaining data from the study subjects. This can be in the form of recall bias when subject is required to remember certain events from the past.

Randomly allocating participants to independent variable conditions means that all participants should have an equal chance of taking part in each condition. A matched pairs design is an experimental design where pairs of participants are matched in terms of key variables, such as age or socioeconomic status. One member of each pair is then placed into the experimental group and the other member into the control group. The purpose of this Communications article is to clarify the purpose and placement of study design elements in an experimental manuscript.

Quasi-experimental research is more common in educational studies, nursing, or other research projects where it's not ethical or practical to use randomized subject groups. For instance, if the control group also experiences a change, it reveals that taking the test twice changes the results. With the ability to analyze the relationship between variables and using measurable data, you can increase the accuracy of the result. Surveys can be shared with the respondents both physically and electronically. When collecting data through surveys, the kind of data collected depends on the respondent, and researchers have limited control over it. Data collection methods in experimental research are the different ways in which data can be collected for experimental research.

True Experimental Research Design

Although this suggests a causal relationship, cause cannot be proven by this methodology (Figure 3). In this research design, one or more subjects or dependent variables are randomly assigned to different treatments (i.e. independent variables manipulated by the researcher) and the results are observed to conclude. One of the uniqueness of experimental research is in its ability to control the effect of extraneous variables. For example, assume the goal is to determine the strength gain in novice and experienced athletes as a result of 3 strength training programs. Rate of change in strength is not a measurable variable; rather, it is calculated from strength measurements taken at various time intervals during the training.

Experimental Research: What it is + Types of designs

With a firm understanding of the system you intend to study, you can write a specific, testable hypothesis. Researchers assign the first control group a posttest only and the second control group a pretest and a posttest. This structure requires the researcher to divide participants into two random groups. One group receives no stimuli and acts as a control while the other group experiences stimuli. This method includes two or more groups, enabling the researcher to use one group as a control. Various settings and professions can use experimental research to gather information and observe behavior in controlled settings.

The pre-experimental design will help researchers understand whether further investigation is necessary for the groups under observation. Research study designs are of many types, each with its advantages and limitations. The type of study design used to answer a particular research question is determined by the nature of question, the goal of research, and the availability of resources. Since the design of a study can affect the validity of its results, it is important to understand the different types of study designs and their strengths and limitations. Repeated Measures design is an experimental design where the same participants participate in each independent variable condition.

This also ensures comparability between groups as most baseline characteristics are similar prior to randomization and therefore helps to interpret the results regarding the intervention/experiment group without bias. Experimental design provides a structured approach to designing and conducting experiments, ensuring that the results are reliable and valid. The purpose of experimental design is to control and manipulate one or more independent variables to determine their effect on a dependent variable. Experimental design allows researchers to systematically investigate causal relationships between variables, and to establish cause-and-effect relationships between the independent and dependent variables. Through experimental design, researchers can test hypotheses and make inferences about the population from which the sample was drawn.

If the variation in random errors is relatively small compared to the total variation in the response, we would have evidence for treatment effect. For example, this research is essential for developing new drugs and medical treatments. Researchers can understand how a new drug works by manipulating dosage and administration variables and identifying potential side effects. The way you classify research subjects based on conditions or groups determines the type of research design you should use.

The control group tells us what would have happened to your test subjects without any experimental intervention. Experimental design means creating a set of procedures to systematically test a hypothesis. A good experimental design requires a strong understanding of the system you are studying.

It involves an intervention that tests the association between the exposure and outcome. Each study design is different, and so it would be important to choose a design that would most appropriately answer the question in mind and provide the most valuable information. Cohort studies can be classified as prospective and retrospective.7 Prospective cohort studies follow subjects from presence of risk factors/exposure to development of disease/outcome.

It allows us to test theories, develop new products, and make groundbreaking discoveries. Experiments across all industries and research realms provide scientists, developers, and other researchers with definitive answers. Sometimes, recruiting a sample of people to randomly assign may be difficult. Experimental research design is a scientific framework that allows you to manipulate one or more variables while controlling the test environment. Differences between experimental and non experimental research on definitions, types, examples, data collection tools, uses, advantages etc.

Remember, you should assign one group as a control and use one or more groups to study the effects of variables. Define the independent variable (the intended stimuli) and the dependent variable (the expected effect of the stimuli). After identifying these groups, consider how you might control them in your experiment. The two variable groups mirror the control groups, but researchers expose them to stimuli. The ability to differentiate between groups in multiple ways provides researchers with more testing approaches for data-based conclusions. After researchers presume the stimulus or treatment has caused changes, they gather results to determine how it affects the test subjects.

What is DFX Design for Excellence ? Dassault Systèmes

design for x

Using a DFX methodology, stakeholders at all stages are required to communicate, collaborate, and cooperate to achieve the goal of X. Looking at how the traditional engineering process is different from a DFX process can shed some light on why so many companies are now choosing to implement Design for Excellence systems. DFX methods focus on reducing waste at every stage of the product development process so overall costs are much lower than traditional engineering and manufacturing processes. Like all Lean techniques, Six Sigma aims to eliminate waste and enhance efficiency.

DfMA brings these specialties together to create simple, economical products that can be manufactured and assembled easily. The other advantages are reduced costs, dependability, and quick product launch. DfX takes a comprehensive and systematic approach to design, from conception to completion.

What is DFX?

With environmental concerns growing every year in the 21st century, many companies desire for their products to have as small an impact on the environment as possible. This is further motivated by many governments now offering subsidies for green products and consumers actively seeking eco-friendly products. Logistics involves aspects such as packaging/transportation, parallel processing, and modularisation (standardisation) of parts.

Benefits of Design for X (DfX) in Project Management

Additionally, DFX comes under the topic of DFSS, which requires a cross-functional team approach involving stakeholders. DFPLC takes into consideration changes that may be required to be made in the future. The product itself and the manufacturing process are designed to accommodate any future changes with as little impact as possible. The first time the terms Design for Excellence and DFX were formally used and recorded was in 1990. With the adoption of Lean manufacturing and Lean management techniques becoming more widespread throughout the 1980s, the development of DFX as a concept was inevitable. Achieving your design goals requires more than just the right DFX methodology.

This approach to “design with the end in mind” delivers both product development lifecycle efficiencies and product lifecycle benefits. DfX methodologies like these allow project teams to optimize the product design for multiple objectives right from the start. Rather than a narrow focus on functionality, DfX takes a wider, more strategic view for excellence across the board. DfX brings cross-functional team members like manufacturing, procurement, and customers into the design process early on. This collaboration and alignment ensures the final product meets objectives across the board.

Where elimination is not possible, they try to delay the failure to a timing equal to or greater than the product lifecycle. Many techniques such as FMEA and FTA help to test and design reliable products. DFMA brings the two methods together to create a more holistic view of the product development process while keeping different aspects in mind. Next, we shall cover some of these focus areas to get a better overall understanding of the design for X concept in different aspects of product development. It provides good practices and design guidelines to ensure we get the design and manufacturing methods right the first time. However, putting too little work into engineering a new product can easily backfire in the latter stages of a project.

What is the difference between the traditional product development process and DFX?

Working within a development framework while targeting your variable ensures a focus on objectives, and the outcomes you plan for. Do not use DFX as a way to sidestep known product development steps, such as specification development, product validation testing, risk evaluation, and other considerations. DFX must be practiced inside of the larger product development framework.

“Our whole goal with this space was basically to turn the lights on in the room, bring in the garden that’s outside, and kind of have an experience of a breath of fresh air,” Brosio says. “I really feel like the dining room is a forgotten room,” says the designer, who set out to prove how vital the space is to a home. The room is anchored by a Riva 1920 table made with the wood of a 50,000-year-old Kauri tree, which Levine surrounded with seating for 12. Another seating area with views of the garden was designed for more intimate dining, games, or meetings, and it’s illuminated by a Murano glass chandelier. At the far end of the room, Levine installed a lush purple sofa with cocktail tables, creating the perfect spot for drinks, dessert, or relaxing with a cup of coffee. Thus, Design for X or Excellence (DFX) is a systematic approach for designing a product where X represents the objectives or characteristics of a product or process.

Only after the product design and manufacturing processes were in place, the logistics systems were given a serious thought. DFMA combines both of these disciplines to deliver simpler, more efficient products that are easier to manufacture and assemble. Additional benefits include lower costs, increased reliability, and a shorter time to market.

Look at the fabrication processes (e.g. die casting, plastic injection molding, extrusion…) but also at the surface treatments (e.g. powder coating, plating…). Certain combinations are highly likely to lead to issues, for example casting aluminum and anodizing it (because of the porosity of the surface). Many product designers design for functionality and for aesthetics.

By optimizing for critical factors like manufacturability, quality, and cost from the outset, DfX methodologies like DfM and DfA enable you to manage projects more effectively. Traditional design often requires multiple back-and-forth iterations to get the product right, adding time and cost. By incorporating best practices like Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Quality (DfQ) into the initial design phase, DfX allows you to maximize quality while minimizing costs. The Design for X approach is helpful for a product, product elements, and the organization. The advantages of Design for Excellence are realized throughout the product’s life cycle. Designers use DfM to improve the design of components, assemblies, and full products.
